Johnston Construction is an industrial / civil contractor specializing in bridge construction, bridge maintenance, structural steel erection, pile driving, foundation construction and bridge & mat rentals. We are a family run company that has been operating in Western Canada for the past 46 years and are committed to providing exceptional quality work and maintaining positive client relationships.
Our workforce combines skilled and experienced project managers, supervisors, operators, tradesmen and labourers into a team able to complete complex projects to exacting standards. We view each new contract as a partnering opportunity, building relationships with our clients, engineers and suppliers to maximize project efficiency and cost control.
From our main office in the East Kootenays Johnston Construction has provided a wide range of services to clients across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon and the Northwest Territory. Our workforce combines skilled and experienced project managers, supervisors, operators, tradesmen and labourers into a team able to complete projects to exacting standards.

Commitment to Safety
Johnston Construction is committed to both public and employee safety. In every jurisdiction, and with every new client, we take the time to review the safety regulations and procedures and seek to go beyond the minimum requirements to ensure the safety or our employees, the traveling public and everyone that has occasion to enter our work sites.
Johnston Construction has received a Certificate of Recognition (COR) from the BC Construction Safety Alliance and WorkSafe BC. The COR certification for Health and Safety is awarded to employers that implement and maintain a Health and Safety management system that when audited exceeds regulatory requirements. This certification shows that Johnston Construction is committed to maintaining a safe work environment and exceeding minimum regulatory requirements.
Commitment to the Environment
Approximately 90% of the work undertaken by Johnston Construction is located in sensitive natural environments near fish bearing creeks and rivers. As a result, Johnston Construction takes a very proactive approach to environmental protection and has never had a major environmental incident. Johnston Construction has developed a close relationship with leading environmental professionals who are called upon as needed to develop job specific construction environmental management plans and provide onsite assistance.

President
As President of Johnston Construction, Mike Johnston provides leadership to the corporation as well as personally overseeing many contracts to ensure work quality and client satisfaction. Mike has over 40 years of project management experience in construction and is a well respected member of the local construction industry. Mike Johnston is also a principal in Johnston Construction.
Monte Johnston, P.Eng. GSC
Sr. Project Manager
Monte Johnston has approximately 15 years of experience in the construction industry in BC, Alberta, Yukon and NWT. Through his construction experience Monte has become familiar with all aspects of construction operations ranging from safety and environmental considerations to production optimization and conflict resolution.
